Our Priest

Our priest: Fr. Alessandro Margheritino

Fr. Alessandro was born and raised in Palermo, Italy. With the exception of seminary, his education took place in Palermo. Fr Alessandro attended a linguistic lyceum where he studied Italian, English, and French literature for five years. He later studied at the University of Palermo where he graduated with a Bachelor in International Relations – Political Science.

Raised in a Roman Catholic family, Fr. Alessandro was chrismated in the Orthodox Church at the age of 17.

While still in school, he traveled to the United States, Western and Eastern Europe, as well as Turkey and the Holy Land. He held a part-time job working as a tour guide in Sicily. 

In 2007 he met his future wife. Anna was born and raised in Moscow, Russia. She studied Advertisement and Graphic Design in Columbus, OH and currently works as the graphic designer for St. Vladimir's Seminary, as well as an iconographer.

Prior to going to seminary, Father Alessandro and his wife were active members of St. Gregory of NyssaOrthodox Church in Columbus, OH and in 2011, they moved to New York to begin a Master of Divinity at St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary. As a seminarian, he was involved in a variety of student activities serving as Student Council President, Community Service Assistant, and representative to the Orthodox Inter-Seminary Movement.

While at seminary, he also had the opportunity to be a mission team member both with the OCMC and the IOCC: Fr. Alessandro and his wife traveled together to Albania in 2012, and in 2013 he traveled to Turkana (Kenya) for a catechetical mission trip. In January 2014, he traveled to New Orleans with the IOCC to work with Habitat for Humanity.

Fr. Alessandro was ordained to the Holy Diaconate by His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon on the Feast of the Holy Three Hierarchs (January 30), and to the Holy Priesthood on the Feast of the Ascension (May 29, 2014). Both ordinations took place at the Three Hierarchs Seminary Chapel of St Vladimir's Seminary.

Fr. Alessandro has been the priest of St Innocent Orthodox Church since 2014. In addition, over the last few years, he has been serving as president of the Greater Cleveland Council of Orthodox Clergy, as well as the spiritual advisor for ZOE for Life! He is also currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree at St. Vladimir's Seminary.

Fr. Alessandro and Mat. Anna are the proud parents of two wonderful boys, Luca and Nicolas.
